The collection consists of letters, accounts books, and miscellaneous bills and receipts of the Andre and Hurlbert families. Most of the letters, written in 1874, are from Samuel to Elizabeth as he traveled through Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Nebraska as an itinerant farm worker. The bills and receipts are primarily from general stores, showing goods purchased, the prices paid, and eggs and dairy products accepted in trade. Scope and Contents
This collection consists of the account book (1907-1925) of Joseph Foster of Ithaca, Michigan. Foster worked as a day laborer, but apparently rented or owned a farm as well. He used the book to record a variety of things: his earnings from day labor, contributions toward his pastor's salary, his savings bonds in local banks, and accounts from his own farm.
